This week I went to one of a successful chain restaurants in Toronto with 13 locations in Canada. I have had Scaddabush before in other locations but not in this location. It has been a few years but I am glad to have an opportunity to revisit this chain with a friend this week. Lets dive into it!
Address: 155 York Blvd, Richmond Hill, ON L4B 3B4

Historical Background
One cheese that is an integral part of Italian dish worldwide that I would like to explore more of its history is mozzarella. Mozzarella cheese is believed to be originated from the southern part of Italy. Back in the Roman era, similar type of cheese from Sheep was already being produced in the 1AD. The use of cheese continued until the 16th century when it was believed that the original authentic Mozzarella di bufala (from buffalo) was produced and gained favor with the royal family’s influence. It was not until the 20th century with the technology of refrigeration that Cheese really spread throughout Europe and America. Due to the demand and popularity of this cheese, it is now being produced from cow’s milk which has a milder taste than the original buffalo cheese.

Value & Vibe
Value: I would say not a cheap eat and also not a fine dining. It is somewhere in between. For a range, expect majority of the pasta or main courses to be in the range of $20-$30 CAD.
Vibe: I would say this is a great atmosphere for a larger group settings, could be family gathering or corporate event due to the portion or if you prefer more shareable menu. This vibe could also be a good for a date night where you are looking for a slightly better vibe than your typical place that will not break your bank comparing to a fancier restaurant. When we were there the seating was full so me and my friend chose to sit by the bar which was comfortable with plenty of seats.
Taste
I have not had that many chain Italian restaurant but I would definitely say that Scaddabush is definitely among the better one. Yes the price is not a cheap eat, but overall I really enjoy the food. If you are on a calories count this might not be the best spot, but if you are looking for a large portion, hearty Italian meal I think Scaddabush is a good choice for you.

Fresh mozzarella Prosciutto – I love this dish! Fresh mozzarella with crispy focaccia with fig, sea salt and prosciutto. Not necessarily cheap ($23.91). But from the taste perspective, I think this is the best dish of the night. Perfect flavor combination from the creaminess of butter, cheese, and olive oil, then the fig’s sweetness and the saltiness from salt and prosciutto. Such an explosion of flavor in one bite. On top of that the texture is incredible. The crunchiness from focaccia, the soft yet chewy texture of mozzarella, and the thin slice of prosciutto provide such a great contrast. Super recommended this for mozzarella and prosciutto’s enthusiast.

Three cheese truffle charity bread – Decent flavor and texture. Well cooked. However, nothing that really stood out.

Spaghetti Carbonara – I also really enjoy this dish. The pasta was very well cooked. The bacon added the saltiness and the crunchiness to the dish. The sauce and egg add the creaminess to it. Definitely on a heavier side of a pasta dish with all the ingredients (so for those who is more concerned on the calories, maybe reconsider it for another dish) but overall great taste and I would personally order it again.
Overall very happy with the vibe and taste of Scaddabush. For an Italian chain (multiple locations) restaurants, I would recommend to check it out especially for a larger group.
