I had an opportunity to visit Panchos this week. Located in a small area of South Bound Brook in New Jersey USA. I used to live in this quiet town in South Bound Brook pre-covid and I am super excited to visit this area again after a few years in Canada. Panchos was one of my favorite Mexican place. Simple but excellent. I am super excited to try this after a few years.

Historical Context

In this post I would like to talk about one of my favorite Mexican dish, “Huevos Rancheros”. Simple yet so delicious. It is traditionally a breakfast dish in Mexico. However, for me it is a comfort dish that I think could be enjoyed any time of the day 🙂 Huevos Rancheros is believed to be originated in the 16th on the rural ranches as part of the breakfast or part of the second meal after the work in the morning. The idea behind huevos rancheros is fairly simple, over easy eggs on top of tortilla with the sauce. However, I have seen quite a varieties of huevos rancheros in many restaurants.

Value & Vibe

Value: Overall great value. Decent portion for a decent price. Not necessary a cheap eat but you will definitely get your money worth. $14.75 USD for 5 tacos and 13.75 USD for Huevos Rancheros (4).

Vibe: Small town vibe. Not a fancy decorated place. Clean and Family friendly style atmosphere.

Taste

Lets start first on the tacos. We got some al pastor and chorizo. And they were amazing!

I personally really like the chorizo. It is very well seasoned. Perfect level of spice and meat. Al pastor was also really well cooked. Combining the meat with the green sauce with fresh onion and a squeeze of lime was heavenly. This is one of the reason I really like Panchos. Nothing fancy just fresh ingredient, great sauce and well seasoned and cooked meat. If you are looking for a fresh clean taste tacos, the tacos at Panchos are perfect for you!

Now moving on to my other favorite dish. I have tried MANY huevos rancheros and the huevos rancheros here is one of my all time favorites. Again, just like its other dishes, very simple. It comes on a fried tortilla (which is what I really like here compared to the other version). The sauce was fantastic and the egg was perfectly cooked. It also comes with a side of rice and beans which I thought was a really great touch. I really like it seperated as you can add as much as you like and doesnt make the fried tortilla soggy. It also comes with a spicy sauce which add even more flavor to the dish.

Lastly I also got a typical Mexican drink, Horchata. It was good but doesn’t necessary stands out.

Overall I really like the food at Panchos. Simple, fresh, clean tasting Mexican restaurant and I would highly recommend. I lived in this area in the past for over two years and I was not disappointed after returning many years later that they have retained its authenticity and taste! Highly recommend!
