Hey Noodles – China Town

Hey Noodles Restaurant is located on 478 Dundas St W. This branch is located in the middle of the busy street of China town. The best way to spot the restaurant is vibrant yellow sign that hangs on the street. Hey Noodles has been known for its Chongqing Street Food.

Historical Context

Chongqing is located in the South Western part of China. This municipality in China has a size roughly of Australia. This province has a population of over 30M people and serves as a center for finance as well as manufacturing and transportation. “Xiao Mian” is one of the affordable traditional breakfast dishes, often spicy and with various spices.

Value & Food

Selections: The menu is fairly simple with mainly two type of noodles and dry noodles. However what has caught my attention was the Weekday special combo. It was a great value!!! The choice that I went with was the Chongqing minced pork with peas Xiao Mian with Salt Crispy Chicken.

Price/Atmosphere: The price is fantastic with only $17CAD weekday combo in which you get a big bowl of noodles, generous portion of crispy chicken and a can soda. The atmosphere is definitely casual in which you may need to order from your phone or the server will come take your order if you order the combo.

Taste: I found the taste to be fantastic! I have chosen spicy and numbing level. You have a choice for four levels from No spice to Fiery hot and No numbing to ultra numbing. I found my level to be very suitable to my level. I am personally not the biggest fan of numbing but this is the right level for me.

In my opinion, the best part of this dish is the right amount of spice level and numbness. The egg noodle is fantastic. Not too soft or hard. The dish also has a complex texture as you bite into the noodles, minced meat, peas, and vegetables. I found the spice level to be great as the broth is not as thick as curry but at the same time thick enough with richness to taste all that spice. The tingling sensation of slight numbness also adds another dimension to the experience of this dish. On top of that, the crispy chicken combination really elevates the experience of this meal as you switch back and forth between hot noodles and salty (with a very small hint of sweetness) chicken. It truly was a great combination!

Overall, I would highly recommend this dish for anyone who likes noodles and spices. The texture is great and the spice will not disappoint!
